Creative Prompt, 12.7.2022
Trouble ahead, trouble behind.
Hi everyone — on Monday I recorded a quick video about ‘writing the dull stuff,’ and then I took five minutes out of my life to write about a dictionary — you can see all that right here:
More importantly, if you haven’t responded to a prompt yet, and you’d like a bit of motivation, have a look at what people are sharing here:
The new prompt is down below, but if you need to get in the *right mood* first, turn your volume up and watch this video of a man feeling a level of joy that we should all be so lucky to experience once in our lives:
As always, the prompt is entirely open to your interpretation — you can follow it as closely or as loosely as you want, using your creative medium of choice.

I suggest waiting until you’re ready to create — the less time to overthink it, the better…

Maybe even set a timer. How’s 15 minutes?

It’s just below here, time to head into Airplane Mode…

A work in progress
Luggage and livelihood
Stowed upon separate cars
Baggage and passenger alike
Connected yet each distinct
In spite uncanny resemblance
and a shared destination
as the long low whistle blows
to herald the final departure the Atlantic’s turbulence existence bearing witness
Overseeing the coastal depot
the hulking behemoth jolts
Awakening with a groan
Slowly Shaking off dormancy
Deliberately moving forward
Filled with humanity
A long trek ahead counted with each wooden slat along the way measured in feet
Then miles until…
The orders come in rolling, it’s the busy season. I’m 3rd generation, been at this factory since I was a little boy, playing hide-and-seek while gramps and pops were working the line. The wonder of seeing the wheels turning against the metal track, the whistle blowing, all the little windows lined up. Trains have always been my passion.
Today I’m welding the coach and the bogie, but feeling extra nervous. See today is the owners “walk through” and we’ll be working for an audience. My flame is hot at work, but I can feel the extra eyes on me. I cut the flame and lift my mask. He smiles and shakes my hand, I feel a flush across my face. I’ve never seen someone in the factory with a suit on.
He says, “ I’m Nick. Was admiring your work, I appreciate such dedication. How long have you been with us?”
My boots are covered in small black flecks from the weld splatter. “Sir I’ve been here 60 years… since I was 4, building trains since 16. My gramps and pops used to bring me here.” My eyes rise to meet his, “these trains are magical for me, I’ve really never worked a day in my life.”
He said, “Now that’s the passion I need!! You’re coming with me tomorrow. I’m making a customer delivery to Mr. Joe Blanker, and you deserve to enjoy handing one of these beauties over”
I couldn’t sleep the night and my stomach was turning during the flight, but we’re finally here. It’s on the track, and the test run went perfectly. Such a smooth ride thanks to my precision. I can feel all the pride welling up in my heart as the light catches and glimmers off the coach. Under this tree is the ultimate destination, and little Joey is going to have a magical Christmas morning.
